Memorial Day Cake

Here's the cake I made for our Memorial Day Barbeque at Lisa and Eric's house on Monday. It turned out fairly well.

Our Memorial Day

We spent our second Memorial Day with our extended family at the Heintz house. Skyler, Sheldon and I went without their dad because he had been invited to go charter fishing for Sturgeon on the Columbia river. Our day is always action packed and it started with flag football.

These were our two teams. Somehow it turned into guys vs. gals.

After football, we started our annual bocci ball tournament and the winner would receive the CHAWBS (Cech, Heintz, Ayers, Bailey, Shoopman) Cup. There was some fierce competition!

After it was all said and done, Team Bam, Kyli and Brandon, ran away with the CHAWBS Cup.

All in all, it was a fabulously fun day filled with food, family and fun games. Can't wait until next year!

The three cake day

For the month of May I was scheduled to make a total of four cakes for the Helping Hand House. The last three were due the 23rd, 26th and the 29th but I received a request to have them all ready by the 23rd because of the holiday weekend. Unfortunately I got that request on Tuesday evening. Wednesday night after work, I spent 4 hours baking 3 cakes that I would have to decorate on Thursday night after work. I planned on a Spongebob cake for a 3 year old little boy, a baseball field for a 10 year old boy and just a simple round cake for a 17 year old girl.

So after another 4 hours of frosting making, coloring, tip swapping, crumb layers and real layers of frosting I finally finished all three cakes and got them delivered to Lisa so she could hand them out to their birthday girl and boys. Whewwwww! Another job done and May cakes are done!

The Sleepover

Sheldon turned 13 on April 3rd but due to my work schedule, the parade and a multitude of other things we were just able to have his party with his friends last night. He invited his friends Corey, Cody, Lorenzo, Tate and Tristan to spend the night. They all arrived between 4 and 5pm last night. All but Tristan ended up spending the night. It was supposed to be a campout in the backyard but due to our lovely Washington weather, none of them wanted to sleep in the tent when it was raining. Party-poopers! So 5 boys piled onto the hardwood floor in my family room and slept there all night, but not after consuming a fair few hamburgers and hotdogs, 3 bags of chips, 3 dozen chocolate chip cookies and an entire bag of marshmallows; most of which ended up in the bottom of the barbeque. Finally about 2am this morning I had to tell them to wrap things up and head to bed. To my surprise they were all up by 9am this morning. I made a hearty breakfast for them of pancakes, eggs and sausage. Boy can they pack the food down! So it's closing in on 11 o'clock and their parents should be here soon, or so I hope because I think they are starting to get on each others nerves, along with my own. Moody little teenagers anyhow.

The best steak ever.

I've never really been a very good barbequer but last saturday was too nice to not barbeque. After work I went to our local butcher shop, Butcher Boys, and picked up 3 HUGE top sirloins. They cost me a pretty penny but they looked delicious so how could I not try to grill them. So I get home and my hubby has the grill all ready for me and after seasoning them with some kind of rub the gal at the butcher shop gave me we threw them on the grill. About 30 minutes later I had grilled them to perfection and I do mean they were PERFECT! They were so good looking my husband had me take a picture of one. Quite a large steak wouldn't you say? At any rate, these steaks were by far the best this little girl has ever cooked in her life! What a perfect ending to a beautiful Saturday afternoon!

My new eyes!

My new glasses from Zenni Optical arrived today! I'm so excited! I got two new pairs of glasses for $80.00! What a deal!

This is the old me...

Let me know what you think. My husband and youngest son both say they like the blue ones the best. I love them both!
